A look back to our Spring Party 2020

Guest Blog written by Mentor and long-term supporter, Victoria Webb

There were games, there was laughter, there was mingling, and boy was there food! Yes, we’re talking about the Hope for the Young Spring Party held on 7th March at our old offices in Bermondsey!

This was a wonderful opportunity for all Mentees, Mentors, staff, core volunteers and Trustees to get together, catch up, meet each other and see in Spring. The space was full and the atmosphere terrific, if a little competitive over the vast array of team-building games – some would say they saw some impressive feats of engineering that afternoon!

Everyone had a chance to mingle and it was a brilliant opportunity for Hope for the Young’s new Grants and Advocacy Coordinator, Pamela, to meet the inspirational people involved on all sides of the charity.

The feeling was vibrant and particularly supportive as Mentees and Mentors alike shared stories of their experiences together – and Mentees who had completed six months of mentoring were presented with certificates to mark their achievements. They were then given a chance to tell the group all they had achieved through the project, and the relationship with their Mentor. Everyone took the opportunity to speak up loudly, clearly and proudly of their achievements and of the bonds built during the process.

The wholly rewarding and rowdy afternoon was rounded off with everyone being given an Easter egg – on top of the veritable feast provided by Hope for the Young, not just of food (although the array of sandwiches and abundance of chicken deserve a special mention) but of joy, laughter and all-round togetherness.

It was a glorious day well spent to ring in Spring, and a wonderful opportunity to come together and celebrate the hard work and success of everyone involved at Hope for the Young. This is especially so in the wake of COVID-19. We were so lucky to have been able to share this time, look back with fond memories and forward with positivity as to when we can enjoy such times together again soon.
