There are lots of ways you can support young refugees and asylum-seekers in your community whilst setting yourself a challenge, making new friends and having fun at the same time!
Any challenge events completed throughout the year, will support young refugees and asylum-seekers who have escaped war, armed conflict, and persecution and have made long, dangerous journeys to reach safety.
Once in the UK, they face uncertainty and hardship, language and confidence issues, loneliness, poor mental health and housing insecurity. As they wait for asylum decisions, which can take years, they are unable to work and forced to survive on £49.18 a week, or as little as £9.95 if they are housed in accommodation where meals are provided. As a result any become isolated and disengaged as they struggle to access the support they need to rebuild their lives.
Despite these challenges, young refugees and asylum seekers remain determined to continue their education, contribute to their communities, and build brighter futures. By taking on a half marathon, cycling challenge, or local 5K and every pound you raise can help a young person access education, mentoring, and vital support to rebuild their life in the UK.
