Recap of our second Youth Ambassador Day with Noura

In July, we held our second Youth Ambassador meeting, a chance to come together to build on skills, discuss priorities and collaborate. Noura, one of our Youth Ambassadors, writes about her experience of the day.
Our second Ambassador Day was an incredibly fun and engaging experience for everyone involved. The day focused on leadership training delivered in creative and interactive ways, helping to build confidence and connection among participants.
We were joined by Fouad Al-Kadi, from Shift Up, who facilitated the sessions for the day. We kicked things off with a session on public speaking, where we explored key skills such as making eye contact and smiling to build a good connection with an audience.
Next, we split into two groups: one group was tasked with explaining a game that the other group had never played before. It was a great exercise in communication and clarity.
Afterwards, we paired up for an activity designed to improve our listening skills. One person answered a question while the other listened without interrupting, then we swapped roles. It was a simple but powerful way to practise active listening – something that’s essential in leadership and everyday life.
We also played a fantasy version of “Rock, Paper, Scissors” – renamed “Princess, Knight, Monster.” Each character had its unique sound effect, which we created ourselves. The game was hilarious and gave everyone permission to be silly and expressive, all while building comfort and confidence in front of others.
Later in the day, we took part in a public speaking challenge, where each of us stood up and gave a 1 – 2 minute speech in response to a question. The session wrapped up with more valuable tips and encouragement around public speaking and leadership.
"It was a supportive space that allowed us to practise our speaking skills and share our thoughts openly.”

After this, we enjoyed a delicious meal together on the rooftop. The sun was shining, and it was an opportunity to unwind, connect with other Ambassadors, and reflect on the experience.
For the second half of the day, Ellie and Emily guided us through the Ambassador meeting! Firstly, we reflected on the achievements Ambassadors have made so far such as speaking at various events which has helped to expand the organisation’s supporters and profile.
“It was inspiring to see how our efforts are contributing to a bigger mission and making a meaningful impact.”

We then started to have some interesting discussions where we were able to share our own insights and ideas about shaping the future of the Hope for the Young. Everyone brought something different to the table, and we had honest conversations about how we can improve the programmes, raise more awareness, and make a lasting impact. Together, we came up with some exciting project ideas that we’re really looking forward to developing as a team – watch this space!
